Coyote Ugly

Sunday fight on the Loop

The wind was head-on, blowing in hard from Makiti. As we left Biden I latched onto a bunch of cyclists & used them to slipstream. Tucked in & protected from the hard cranking, I stayed with them all the way to Mike’s, where I stopped for a flat white.

It was busy in that peloton & I did not speak at all to eddy.

When we left Mike’s it was the first time I spoke to him.

“Sjoe, that was wild!”

“Bliksem! That stop at Mike’s was like no other, Mastelek.”

He was right. As I was queuing up for my coffee there was an incident. One woman recognised her ex with another woman.

“She is ugly, you bastard!” the ex yelled at her previous partner.

All eyes were now glued on the belligerents. The ex looked like a rabbit in the headlights.

“Go away, bitch,” the current girlfriend shot back.

Then the F-bombs started flying & the two moved in & started swinging. The guy finally stepped in like a ref & other cyclists helped pull the fighters apart.

I ordered & had my flat white.

“Jirre,” Mike kept muttering.

The road back was easy, the wind was on my back. It was perfect.

Just past Makiti we encountered some donkeys in a camp. One was screeching & running around in that distinct Eeyore way, chasing another.

“That is ‘bitch’ in donkey,” I told eddy.

He lost it. Pissed himself laughing. Went on for minutes. He could not stop.

“Please shut up & sing a song,” I instructed eddy.

Then he started humming Meredith Brooks’ Bitch.

Dammit, eddy. You know Alumeagas like you are the blondes of bicycles.

eddy lost it again.

We rolled into Biden & admired a classic BMW parked at the coffee shop.

“Jy weet,” said eddy. “The samovar would love this skinder we saw today. Right up her alley.”

I’ll have the message passed on, eddy.
